Finding a sunscreen that doesn't leave a white residue can be a challenge, but chemical sunscreens are a great solution.
Unlike physical sunscreens, chemical formulas absorb UV rays, convert them into heat, and release them from the skin. Keep in mind that chemical sunscreens need a few minutes to activate, so it's best to apply them 15–20 minutes before sun exposure!
1. Somethinc Holyshield! UV Watery Sunscreen Gel
This lightweight gel from the Indonesian brand Somethinc has a radiant, glowy finish and feels cool on the skin. It spreads easily, absorbs quickly, and doesn't feel heavy at all. There's a slight herbal scent, but it's mild enough for most people who aren't sensitive to fragrance.
2. Nivea Triple Protect Acne Oil Control
Ideal for oilier skin types, this sunscreen provides a matte finish that helps control shine throughout the day. However, it can sting the eyes, so it's not recommended for those with sensitive eyes. Despite that, it's a solid choice for daily wear on oil-prone skin.
3. Sur. Medic+ Azulene Mild 5.5 UV Protect Sun
This sunscreen is tinted blue due to its calming azulene ingredient. It spreads easily and soothes the skin, though it has a noticeable fragrance and can feel a bit greasy for very oily skin. Setting it with a light loose powder helps create a balanced, comfortable finish.
4. SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum
A lightweight sunscreen with a dewy finish that feels incredibly comfortable on the skin. Fragrance-free and easy to layer, it works well for combination to oily skin without feeling greasy, leaving a natural, hydrated glow.
Chemical sunscreens without whitecast are perfect for layering under makeup while protecting the skin from UV damage. These picks offer different finishes—glowy, matte, or dewy—so there's an option for every skin type and preference.
